Of Earth For Earth
Of Earth For Earth, an exhibition which ran along side
the final conference for IMP@CT sustainable mining.
5 Artists were commissioned to responds to themes around
mining.
My pieces explored the concept of a sustainable mining
and the effects on ecology and mineral wealth of landscape and raised a comparison to traditional extractive practice. Inspiration came from the area of Carn Brea, Redruth, Cornwall. The final conference and exhibition was held in close proximity to the mining region.
Copper infused PLA echoed the minerals mined from the landscape. Reducing the density of pattern on the surface reflected mineral wealth of the area.
These pieces not only explore issues around mining but celebrate industrial heritage. The geological formation of the land allowed mining to become a major industry in Cornwall.
